The ACT-Wazalendo party leader Zitto Kabwe, on Thursday, 21 May, asked Tanzanians to take strict precautions to protect themselves ahead of Idd-ul-Fitr.
Mr Kabwe said Tanzanians should stick to the measures outlined by the Ministry of Health towards efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, like the observation of social distances, wearing masks and washing hands using running water.
Speaking in a live stream, he accused the government of taking a different direction from one agreed by regional bodies and neighbouring countries to curb the novel disease. He warned that almost three per cent of the country’s population will die.
The oppositions have been suggesting lockdowns on several occasions, something the government has been against, arguing that it will totally damage the economy of the nation.
The opposition party leader added, “The economy was already affected by the killer disease and so it cannot perform better while the labour force was in the battle”.
